Part B Editorial Anthology Group Magazine Final Work
Evaluation
For this
Project, the subject I decided to focus on was depression within the creative
industry and how as creative people, we are more likely to experience mental
health issues. For my final pieces I chose to create almost a form of loose narrative.
The title page is a long corridor with cell-like doors on one side, this gives
the idea that you are being shown some sort of prison. The page neighbouring
that is the first glimpse of who is being held within these locked rooms. It is
revealed that this captive is a writer, with only a bed, a typewriter and paper
to keep them company. The next double page spread introduces the viewer to the
other two captives: an artist and a musician. These two creatives also only
have access to their respective supplies and show different reactions to having
these. The artist has decided to manically draw repetitive spirals over the
walls and the musician has destroyed their instruments. I believe the strength
of these pieces is the overall mood I feel I was able to achieve with the
intense lighting. I also think I was able to successfully create the atmosphere
that I wanted. Something I could improve upon is maybe adding more information
from the article to the illustrations, the reason I decided not to do this is
because I had made the drawings not with adding any text in mind, therefore, I left
no room to add any. I feel that adding text would help provide more context to
the audience.
